Broken Arrow City Leaders Prepare for Major Conferences and Community Celebrations
Broken Arrow is hosting major events and advancing community projects this summer, reinforcing its reputation as one of Oklahoma’s fastest-growing and most engaged suburban cities.
City leaders continue balancing high-profile hosting duties with ongoing infrastructure improvements and strong support for public education, all while preparing residents for a festive Independence Day season.
City Government and Infrastructure Updates
The City of Broken Arrow recently welcomed over 100 women leaders from across the United States for two significant conferences focused on women in municipal government. The Oklahoma Municipal League’s Women in Municipal Government (WiMG) Retreat took place June 22–24 at the Stoney Creek Conference Center, followed immediately by the National League of Cities’ 2026 Women in Municipal Government Summer Conference (June 24–26).
These back-to-back events highlighted leadership development, networking, wellness, conflict resolution, and strategies for strengthening local communities. Broken Arrow Mayor Debra Wimpee and Ward 2 Councilor Lisa Ford (2026 WIMG President) played key roles in hosting, showcasing the city’s commitment to elevating women in public service.
Beyond the conferences, city council members remain focused on critical infrastructure projects. Recent updates shared in the “Broken Arrow in Motion” series include:
- Main Street waterline improvements
- Progress on the 2.5-million-gallon elevated water storage tank at Lynn Lane and New Orleans
- Houston Street widening
- Aspen Avenue projects
- County Line Trunk Sewer Phase II
These initiatives aim to enhance water reliability, traffic flow, and overall quality of life as the city grows.
Voters previously approved a substantial 2026 General Obligation Bond package supporting transportation, public safety, trails, sidewalks, and more. City leaders continue updating residents on project timelines through regular communications.
Broken Arrow Public Schools News
Broken Arrow Public Schools (BAPS), one of Oklahoma’s largest and most respected districts, actively supports students and the broader community year-round.
On July 1, the district hosted the Red, White and True Blood Drive at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center (701 S. Main St.) from 1:30–4 p.m. The patriotic drive aimed to collect 250 donations in honor of America’s 250th anniversary while supporting future high school blood drives.
Additionally, BAPS provides summer Chromebook support for students with district-issued devices. Help is available Monday and Thursday (8 a.m.–12 p.m. and 1–3 p.m.) at Broken Arrow High School through late July. Chargers are available for purchase, ensuring students stay prepared for the upcoming school year.
These efforts reflect BAPS’s dedication to both academic excellence and community health.
Upcoming Community Events
Residents enjoyed the vibrant New Orleans Square Block Party on June 26–27. The free annual event featured live music, food trucks, a kid zone, vendors, and fireworks at the intersection of New Orleans Street (101st St.) and Elm Place. It kicked off summer celebrations and America’s 250th anniversary festivities.
Looking ahead to Independence Day, city police and fire departments are coordinating holiday safety efforts. Additional America 250 celebrations include special pool passes, church bell ringings, a time capsule burial, concerts, and fireworks. These events foster community spirit and patriotism.
A Thriving Community
Broken Arrow continues to grow as a vibrant community with strong governance, excellent schools, and engaging events. The successful hosting of national and state leadership conferences demonstrates the city’s growing stature, while infrastructure investments and school programs ensure long-term sustainability and opportunity for residents.
From leadership summits to blood drives and block parties, Broken Arrow exemplifies small-city charm with big-city energy.
